And in each beginning dwells an inner magic...

Now this is a bit of a shock…let me explain in less dramatic terms: You know how you sometimes find something new (music, books, etc) and you start telling all your friends about it and then sometimes think of other artists that you like who you want to reach out to and tell about that special new gem? I always console myself with thinking that if I found them they have probably heard them before anyway…but this proves otherwise…anyway. Really happy that Michael Kiwanuka is getting more exposure through this…he so deserves it (and I’m kind of jealous that John Mayer gets the joy of listening to this for the first time now…Yes, it’s that good.)

Michael Kiwanuka
Just saw him play a song called “I’m Getting Ready” on David Letterman tonight. I was dumbfounded. What a voice. What a song. What a vibe. What a soul. What a message. I don’t want to wait until I listen through every song on his album and I invent some dumb self-protective reason why it wasn’t what I first thought it was. It absolutely is what I think it is: it’s a revelation. It’s a reassurance to everyone who loves and plays “natural” music that the future of it is going to be alright for quite some time. I just clicked on all the previews on iTunes and I’m so excited to get to know the album.  Please buy records by people who write and play their own music. It matters more than you think. Tonight I had a rare “pull the car to the side of the road” moment. It’s been too long. So exciting.
